Operator: Air India

Air India’s origins go back to the small Tata Airlines which began services in October 1932. In 1946, Tata became Air India Ltd. the international part – Air India International – was incorporated in March 1948. The first of 3 L-749As was delivered in March 1948 and a weekly Bombay to London service via Cairo and Geneva was inaugurated in June 1948.
The first L-1049C arrived in 1954 and opened the first class service to London in June 1954. By 1955 Air India had 5 Super Constellations in service. 2 final Super Gs were ordered in late 1957 and in summer 1958 a total of 10 Super Connies were in service, where as the remaining L-749As were sold.
The last Super Constellation all-cargo service had already taken place in May 1962, while the last usage of the type was on the Hajj pilgrimage charters to Jeddah in May 1962, by which all nine remaining aircraft had been sold to the Indian Air Force for use as transport and maritime patrol aircraft.
