In March 1958 Alaska wanted to purchase 2 L-749As from Boac, but financial problems connected with difficulties to dispose their new DC-6A resulted in the deal falling through. In January 1962 Alaska lease-purchased a L-1649A Freighter from TWA with a second aircraft following in April 1962. A 3rd aircraft was bought in March 1965 for spare parts use. Frm April 1963 , 2 and later 3 L-1049Hs were leased. By 1967, the L-1049H had returned off lease, and in May 1967 one of the L-1649A was withdrawn. One L-1649A continued as a backup aircraft until September 1968.
