Operator: Iberia

Iberia ordered 3 L-1049 Super Constellations in 1952 and regular Madrid – New York services started in September 1954. South American destinations were added in 1956 and two Super Gs were added in 1957. In early 1961 3 Super Connies were leased from KLM, of which 2 were bought in 1962.
In the meantime the last New York schedules were flown with the Super Connies in November 1961 when DC-8s took over. Iberia L-1049s became a regular sight on the European network and in October 1963 the first of 7 Super G conversions with a rear cargo door were carried out by Air France. Although most of the flights were passenger IT charters for both Iberia and Aviaco. 1965 was the last full year of Super Constellation schedules and all aircraft had been withdrawn from Iberia’s network by March 1966.
