The Hacienda opened on 17 October 17 1956, at a cost of $6 million, with 266 rooms and the largest swimming pool on the Strip. Warren Bayley formed Hacienda Airlines in 1957. Offering packages that included transportation from places on the West and East coast to the Hacienda as well as a room and some casino chips. The airline operated up to 5 L-049s, 1 L-749, DC-3s, and DC-4s numbering as many as 30 aircraft. The Connies were still registered to Hacienda, though the CAB ordered to cease Hacienda’s operations, as they were operating like scheduled services, in 1962.
