Apart from the first of each individual type of Constellation used for certification flying, research and development work over the years, Lockheed Aircraft used to a L-1049G and H, as well as the L-1649 prototype as company aircraft during the 1960s. In particular the Connies were used by Kelly Johnson for several years to fly test equipment to dessert test fields in connection with the SR-71 / YF-12 and other Lockheed test programs. The L-1049H was used to ferry personnel between Burbank and Palmdale in connection with the L-1011 Tristar program. The Connies were phased out by 1970.
