Operator: Skyways of London

Skyways of London – In 1959, Skyways lease-purchased four 749As Constelllations from BOAC to operate the latter’s all-cargo scheduled service from London to Hong Kong, Singapore and Sidney. In the winter of 1959-1960, three of the Connies were fitted with a large rear cargo door, and were mainly used on the scheduled freight service. In addition, an all -Tourist passenger service was operated from London to Malta and Tunis. During the 1960 summer season, regular IT charters were also flown by the Connies to Turin, and other passenger and freight charters were undertaken. On 31 March 1962, Skyways was faced with the loss of the BOAC freight contract, which resulted in an overnight decrease of 2/3 of its revenue. In June the three 749As with cargo doors, became fully Skyways owned and the fourth Connie, a passenger aircraft, was given back to BOAC.
